heading to new york for a trip to the james beard house.

james beard was a famous chef and after he died some people bought his house and turned it into a non-profit organization. now the house hosts upcoming and established chefs from all over the country. it is an honor to be invited to cook here - sometimes referred to as the oscars of food.

some people are members of the house but others (like me) come once in a while and pay a higher fee. the fee includes a cocktail hour and full course meal with wine pairing for each course.

tonight’s chefs are michael cordua and david cordua, a father and son from texas cooking south american cuisine.

i’m especially excited fort he dark and stormy drink which i was first introduced to in bermuda and the tawny port that will finish the meal off. can’t wait!

watched paris, je t’aime the other day. its pretty cool in the sense that is 18 short films strung together. nothing connects the shorts besides that they are all based in different parts of paris. also they do a little bit at the end that shows how some of the characters from the separate stories knew each other.

some of the directors are Gus Van Sant (milk, good will hunting), Joel and Ethan Cohen (no country for old men, o brother where art thou), Sylvain Chomet (the illunsionist), Tom Tykwer (perfume: the story of a murderer).

it also has an all star cast of actors: natalie portman, elijah wood, steve buscemi, maggie gyllenhaal, bob hoskins, emily mortimer, and rufus sewell

i was a little unsatisfied because some of them left me wanting more closure. however, the snippets of life they showed were very interesting. most were done in a clever or funny or interesting way. here are a couple of the shorts that really stood out to me and have kept coming back into my head even after i watched the movie.

possible europe excursion 1

these are a couple cities i’d love to see while traveling in europe. the only two that are set in stone are antwerp and london. however, i really want to stop in austria and somewhere in germany. the vienna stop makes the most sense for austria but for germany there are many more options. i’m thinking about looking into munich which brews one of my favorite beers, franziskaner.

once i’m in antwerp i’ll probably take a day trip up to holland and same goes for ireland whilst i am in london.

its so exciting to get a bearing on what i’ll be doing for the next couple months. wahoo!
